Nudist Rules of Etiquette

Generally, the same common-sense guidelines for behavior apply in the naturist world as in the clothed world. Be polite and respect the rights of others.

  • Gawking is impolite. It is OK to look but always rude to stare (particularly with binoculars or through a camera).
  • For sanitary reasons, sit on a towel when using public seats, host furniture, or benches.
  • Nudity is not sexual.  Sensual?  Sure, but keep the sex where it belongs.  Contrary to some common perceptions, most nudist gatherings are not meet markets.   Unwanted advances or touching will not be permitted.  NO means NO!
  • Stick with first names until you know someone well enough to share more.  Privacy is a big issue for many folks.
  • Do not take pictures without permission from everyone present.  Many places prohibit any kind of recording device.  If not sure, keep it stowed.
  • Applying tanning oil to yourself or another is fine if asked to do so!
  • Erections happen, but rarely.  That towel comes in handy until things calm down.
  • Glass is not nudist-friendly and illegal at the beach.  Be prepared to use another container for beverages brought in a glass.
  • At most events, new members aren’t expected to be nude immediately, but after a while, your motives for being there may be questioned.
  • When you speak to people, make sure you look them in the face & not at other parts of their body.
  • Be aware of your comments & what you say to a person so that you do not offend them.
  • Maintain body contact at a very professional level. Do not touch a person if they do not let you or are not comfortable with you doing so.
  • Get dressed before you leave the nudist venue.
  • Be friendly, but respect others’ rights to privacy.

These rules and guidelines are expected to be followed at all events.   Failure to follow these rules may result in immediate expulsion from the event as well as membership probation and/or expulsion from group membership, in addition, you could be reported to the American Association for Nude Recreation (AANR) for inclusion in the banned membership list.
